Practically every single day this past week, I had an idea of what I wanted to blog about but couldn’t get to it on my to-do list. By the next day, that idea was supplanted with another one. Then, last night, we watched Netflix’s The Social Dilemma.
The Social Dilemma is an approximate hour-and-a-half documentary with interviews of tech experts and former executives from many social media companies, along with dramatizations, highlighting the negative impact social technology has had on our society.
“How do you wake up from the Matrix when you don’t know you’re in the Matrix?”
Tristan Harris
In fairness, at least one social media company has responded, claiming the documentary exaggerates or distorts facts.
Regardless of whether you believe everything in the documentary or not, it certainly creates “food for thought” regarding how media/tech-saturated our lives have become. I’m a big fan of things that make us think about issues rather than just accepting what we’re “fed” as truth. So, I think everyone should watch and decide for themselves.
