The kids are at Mema’s for a week. A whole week. We’ve been doing this for the last few summers – I think ever since we moved from Alabama to Texas in 2006 – one or all of them spending a week each with her and working in a week where all three of them are gone at once. This summer wasn’t looking promising though, as Mema had to have surgery on her eyes earlier in the season. So I was thinking none of them would be going this year. Fortunately it worked out and they are there!
I decided to tag the adventures Bryan and I have over the next week on Twitter with the hashtag title above. ‘Cause you know we’ll go wild and crazy sans children – like going to a movie in the middle of the day and falling asleep at 6p.m. Yeah, man, we’re outta control.
The kids love going to Mema’s and who can blame them. It’s all play and no work, eating whatever they want (Mema missed her calling as a short-order cook) and watching/doing whatever they want, too. Heck, I wanna go to Mema’s. Just not at the same time.
It’s good to have a break between mom and kids, especially after a summer so long and hot that much of it has been spent inside together. Â This way they get a break from me telling them to fold clothes and I get a break from them asking for something. This way, I’ll miss them and be so excited to see them when they get back – you know, ’cause absence makes the heart grow fonder – and then they’ll start school. Sweet.
