But You Never Knew (circa 1989)

I’d almost given up when you came into my life.
Thinking of you made it well worth the fight.
Times were hard for me until you came along.
The comfort that you gave me kept me going strong.

But you never knew what you did for me.
All the time you were there, but you never did see
That I needed you.
Now what can I do
To make you believe me
And hold me close to you?

You could make me smile every time I cried.
If I were lost you’d tell me to let you be my guide.
Even the time I wouldn’t reach out for you
You were there to take my hand and pull me through.

But you never knew what you did for me.
All the time you were there, but you never did see
That I needed you.
Now what can I do
To make you believe me
And hold me close to you?

And I never realized what you meant to me.
All the time I felt this way, but never did I see
That I loved you.
Oh, I love you.
And now what can I do
To make you want me again
Now that we’re through?
