For anyone not engrossed in the Disney Channel, here’s a newsflash: Hannah Montana, the Movie premiered today. The Girl’s been talking about it for months so I promised her (and Boy Genius, who is surprisingly interested as well) that we’d go to see the movie this afternoon after school. I had to take Wonder Boy with us, though, so I was expecting to spend most of the time walking in the aisle or outside the theater with him. I didn’t have much of a choice, though, since I try to avoid using a babysitter because of the cost. And when I asked Bryan if you wanted to join us (you know, to help corral Wonder Boy) he said, “&!*@ no!”
We went right after school to see the movie. The Girl and Boy Genius seemed to really enjoy it. Wonder Boy, on the other hand, was horrible, moreso than I expected. He couldn’t make up his mind whether he want to sit in my lap, sit in the seat next to me, dance in the floor or run up and down the aisles screaming. I walked out with him several times and got popcorn, root beer and gummy worms (all things I don’t normally let him eat) to try to occupy to no avail; and I’m pretty sure he ate at least one of the many pieces of popcorn he dropped from the floor! OMGosh! I know the other people were either thinking I was nuts or just wishing I’d leave.
Nevertheless, from what I got to watch of the movie, it was sweet. It occurred to me that I may get a little mushier about Hannah Montana than I would generally because The Girl likes her so much. Anyway, there were some new songs, including The Climb, which they’ve already been playing so I knew it. But there was also one about the metaphoric butterfly learning to fly that just about made me cry.
Here it is at YouTube: Butterfly Fly Away
I watched it twice already, with The Girl sitting on the couch next to me leaning her head on my arm and softly singing along. Ahhhh, totally worth it.
